About our school!
Scoil Naomh Pádraig, or Corracrin NS, is a co-educational, single stream primary school outside the village of Emyvale, Co. Monaghan. We currently have 226 children enrolled from a range of ethnic backgrounds. A special class for children with autism, Síolta, was opened in September 2020, a first in our proud 180 year history. We have 15 teachers including our Administrative Principal Mr. Baxter, 5 SNAs, our full time secretary Antoinette, our caretaker Francis, bus escort Edna and cleaners Jaqueline and Margaret on our staff. We have two streams of Junior Infants meaning that new infants can take advantage of smaller class size for that first, important year at primary school.
As you can see from our mission statement, we are dedicated to providing a fun, rounded educational experience for all our pupils. We have extremely high academic standards and our standardised test results are consistently higher than national averages. We very much appreciate the positive influence of sport, art and drama in our children's schooling and make every effort to nurture the children in these areas. We have many nationalities enrolled at our school and we celebrate the diverse community that makes our school very special. Our children's achievement is celebrated at termly assemblies - look at the pictures on this website! We have a Catholic ethos, teaching and preparing our children for sacraments as appropriate. We, however, welcome children from all faiths and none, and are respectful of the diverse demographic of modern day Ireland.
We have enjoyed many successes, particularly in GAA, basketball, soccer and athletics and do our best to develop our children as keen sportspeople. Our Senior Girls won the Roinn 2 County Gaelic Football League in April 2022 to the delight of the whole school community in Castleblaney. We participate in the Peace Proms (a national concert in Dublin's RDS for primary school children) every other year - a wonderful opportunity for our Senior pupils. Our school has WiFi enabled fibre broadband throughout - something that few rural schools can boast. We are committed to digital learning and the opportunities therein and are well resourced in technology. Every classroom, mainstream and support room has a HD interactive touchscreen as standard - more evidence that Corracrin NS is one of the best equipped primary schools in the county, if not country.
We have some of the best school facilities in Monaghan, with a big GP room, art room and wonderfully equipped classrooms as standard here. We are wholly committed to inclusive education and as such we are delighted to open our first special class for children with autism in September 2020 - responding to the educational needs of the Donagh Parish and beyond. The Department of Education approved a €1.5m extension to our school that will be built in 2022-23 to cater for our ASD classes in bespoke accommodation. We cater for all academic abilities and our Special Educational Needs team are highly skilled and experienced in this area. Our expectations and standards are high and we are always proud of the 6th Class pupils that leave us after 8 years in our care. Our school is strictly anti bullying - see the Fun Friends information on this website for details on how positive friendships, resilience and mindfulness is promoted at this school. Read our positive behaviour policy to see how we encourage and expect good behaviour among our children.
We participate in national programmes such as Green Schools and Active Schools and are always looking for opportunities for our pupils to broaden their educational experience.
